Hot in the City

Fuck me, it is hot in New York. I can’t seem to move without becoming dunked in my own sweat. “No, no, I went swimming earlier and forgot to bring a towel.” I am writing this after two days of reflection, on the three day blur that was Brooklyn. Our friends are absolutely wonderful. They came out in serious force and solidarity. The average per night was an astonishing 10! Hey man, not bad, not bad at all. The shows at David King’s and at Tommy’s Tavern went great, sweaty and wet, but great. We played well, people seemed to like it and we had fun. Maybe too much fun. (No, seriously, it’s too fucking hot in that city, I think I am losing my mind. It breeds all those people who talk to themselves and hug buildings and shit.) The late nights and subsequent abuse took it’s toll on the team. No “I”.

That goddamn heat will wipe your ass out. I spent all afternoon Friday and Saturday out in it, swimming (in sweat). My Friday stroll through downtown Brooklyn with Lou was a great treat. What a fine person she is. We ate felafel and yogurt, drank mint tea and stared across the river as the ants worked for the queen on Wall Street.  Saturday I went to record stores and made some gas money and hype. I came across Academy Records, in Williamsburg. They were super-right-on! Great store. I purchased a few mid-80’s garage and “paisley-underground” comps (I can’t get over that stuff right now) and stopped a few times for heat relief and beer. Later a show. Even later a 4am cab ride to Times Square. Man, it sure is bright there. This city really doesn’t sleep. Neither did we.

We all met at Casey’s and packed up, went to a music store (Damion blew his amp on Saturday) HE FINALLY BOUGHT AN AMPEG! We can’t believe it. Cast aside the excitement for the reality that our minds have begun to melt and now we must slay another dragon. That Beowulf was a bad mutha…
Man, I hope Philadelphia isn’t this hot.
